I'm going to take you from a Claude beginner to an expert using a simple four-step prompting process. Number one, role. You have to tell Claude exactly how to think. Don't just say, help me eat better. Instead, open with, you are a professional nutritionist. That one line tells Claude exactly where to pull from. Now you're getting expert answers instead of random ones. Number two is context. Everybody skips one, and it's one that changes everything. Claude doesn't know your life. So tell it. I'm a vegetarian. I've got about $75 a week for groceries, and I don't have time to cook anything complicated. It's not just planning meals for some random person, it's planning them for you. Number three, command. Tell it exactly what you want it to make. Create a seven-day dinner plan of meals that take no more than 15 minutes. That gives Claude a clear job with no guessing. Number four is format. This is how you actually want to use it. Claude, create this month's meal plans in a calendar format, along with a list for grocery items for each week and save it as a PDF on my desktop so that I can access it. Here's the expert move. Once that output is exactly what you want, tell Claude, now write me the prompt that would have gotten me there faster. It hands you a perfect prompt. And now you can save and use it forever. Role, context, command, format. That's it.
