Singapore-based startup Flint created a "paper battery" that integrates cellulose into the casing, cathode, electrolyte, and separator. Using zinc and manganese dioxide chemistry, the battery contains no lithium, cobalt, nickel, or PFAS, and is non-flammable even when cut or exposed to flame. Founder Carlo Charles says it delivers up to 4.2 volts and 226 watt-hours per kilogram, with 1,000 recharge cycles, rivaling lithium-ion at 1.8 times lower cost per kilowatt-hour. Flint won Logitech's 2025 Future Positive Challenge and is piloting AAA batteries in Logitech peripherals, targeting low-power household electronics rather than electric vehicles.
