demolishing our doomscrolling addiction: this summer we, yes we, are killing our doom scrolling addiction. demolishing our doomscrolling addiction: the advantages and disadvantages of deleting social media i deleted literally every aspect of social media apart from messages and whatsapp for roughly three months, and i thought i would share the disadvantages and advantages that i found throughout that process. firstly, we're going to start with the advantages: because we like to start on a positive note. as i'm sure you can imagine, i had so much more time. 1. SO much more time i finished a book in somewhat two days and i found myself just being able to sit with boredom and not really knowing what to do. 2. less overstimulation secondly, i was a lot less over stimulated. i have a busy brain, as many others do, and i found without the constant change of topic from scrolling, i was able to decompress and relax more. 3. less comparison + judgement thirdly, i found that i felt less inclined to change myself for others, because when you're on social media you see: 'oh my gosh, this is why i did this new keto diet.' 'this is why we're having hot girl summer and we're not going to eat anything.' but without that constant kind of drilling into your brain that: 'you need to lose weight, you need to wear this, you need to look like this.' it becomes, i guess, a bit more positive. 4. creativity improved overall, i would say that my creativity improved. i mean, i came up with the concept for a book, i wrote more poems, honestly, loads of other things as well. disadvantages: now let's move on to the disadvantages of not having social media. 1. i felt SO disconnected i think the main overarching one was that i felt so disconnected from not only my friends, but the world in general. i mean, i wasn't being informed about important political points, some of my friends just stopped talking to me because i didn't really understand certain trends or there's only one app to message me on. and in general i experienced loads of fomo. 2. i just found other obsessions and then also without social media to hyperfixate on, i found myself hyperfixating on other things that weren't really that much better anyways. the verdict: so my overall verdict is that maybe social media isn't what's actually the problem, but instead how we use it in excess is. my substack: mia leader @miaelizabethleader if you want a deeper report, then i suggest going to my sub stack and follow along for more types of these videos.
