I taught myself UI/UX design in just 6 months and got paid for it. Without a boot camp or a 10k course. Here's my 5-step process. Number one is understanding UI/UX, which is basically solving problems through screens. Kind of like this checkout flow on Aritzia. Some designer made that. And that brings me to point number three, which is sketch it first and then make it clickable. Start by mapping your thought process and your logic, and don't focus on making the screens pretty. I like to draw my screens out on paper first, then take it digital. This is where I find AI to be really helpful. For example, I like to use Replit to turn my sketches into things that are actually clickable. I think this is a step that a lot of beginners skip, but it one teaches you the interaction design and you, through clicking through it yourself, that's how you catch the things that a sketch can actually show you. You can even send the Replit link to a friend to have them test it five or six times just to make sure it feels right. And finally, number three is start polishing it on Figma. Once the flow works, that's when you can start focusing on typography, spacing, color. Figma is the industry standard. From about six months of practice, I was able to land a 4K contract.
