How are airlines just getting away with this

How are airlines just getting away with this? I can't even explain the absolute of despair that when I get an email that says, we've made a small change to your upcoming trip, because every time I get an email like this, I know I'm gonna open it and I'm just going to get absolutely screwed by the airline and have nothing that I can possibly do about it. Like recently I made an airline reservation and specifically paid more for one with a reasonable layover that wasn't too long, wasn't too short. I wasn't gonna feel stressed about making my connecting flight. And I tried far away from, like, summer storm risks. And then what did they do? They sent me an email and said, small change to your trip, made the layover the shortest possible that it can be legally. So now, of course, I'm stressed about making my connecting flight and then being able to attend the wedding that I'm going to. I did pay more to make my flight changeable, but I would pay the difference of the now higher ticket prices. I called and spoke to a supervisor, they're saying there's nothing they can do because it's a legal flight change. I literally have no options here, and it's just crazy that they can just do after I specifically paid for the type of flight experience that I wanted. Experience that I wanted. Gotta take it. It just makes me so unbelievably mad.
