Stop Rotating Your Feet Out! My 2 Free Books explain all my methods, link bio. Hard copies on Amazon.
Our thoughts & prayers to this individual & anyone who’s delt with similar injuries. This was a double quad tear + double knee fractures. These types of injuries & most musculoskeletal injuries are largely preventable simply by adhering to proper body mechanics, technique, alignment, posture, & range of motion.
1.A straight foot/ankle joint is considered neutral in biomechanics.
2. Rotating the feet out is a common weightlifting & powerlifting practice as it’s more conducive for collapsing at the bottom of a squat thereby helping the lifters reach excessive depth (past 90) to satisfy man-made rules & judging criteria of their sport. It has nothing to do with optimal biomechanics.
3. When the toes rotate out it creates energy leaks, lack of joint centration (poor kinematics), & mismatched force vectors (flawed kinetics) throughout the kinetic chain, all of which not only compromise force & power production but greatly increase risk of injury & joint degradation. Straight foot mechanics does the opposite as it optimizes all these.
4. Many powerlifters & weightlifters wreck their natural lower body mechanics because their feet & hips have spent so much time in excessive external rotation. This becomes their go-to movement strategy for any lower body movement including walking, running, & overall gait mechanics.
5. Over time this can lead to a variety of lower body impairments & pain-related issues not to mention extreme ruptures & tears.
6. Straight feet is something that should be used on most exercises including squats & deadlifts regardless of individual differences in anthropometrics.
7. What’s crazy is the Bible also confirms what we see in science. The Bible & science always point back to each other.
“Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb that is impaired may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.” (Hebrews 12:12-13).

Note: If you decide to squat deep then you will need to rotate your feet out. This is another reason the deep squat represents aberrant & faulty biomechanics under heavy loads.
