Recently I got to work as an EN-team translator specifically for Jo. First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who has been so kind and giving me supportive comments. I was really, really nervous, even just to go about this opportunity. Being online, a lot of people say a lot of things about me. I really didn't know how the internet was going to react to me being a dudette and being able to work with their favorite groups and just in the K-pop industry. I see a lot of K-pop fans being able to work with their favorite groups and just in the K-pop industry. Here's to cheering on more K-pop baddies and their employment. First and foremost, how did I get this job? So, I wasn't sure if I was going to get this job. I had posted on their Instagram that they were hiring for a Japanese and English translator. I was so not confident in myself. It wasn't until I saw that the listing was still up after a week that I was like, why don't I just try? The worst that can happen is they just don't need me. Like, I just don't get it. I did study translation in college. Specifically, I studied Japanese and translation. And it was so funny because it was actually K-pop that helped me discover that dream because I used to be an amateur translator and I used to post them on Twitter and I had so much fun doing it that I would spend all of my free time translating. Unfortunately, towards the end of my college, I did lose a lot of confidence in my English and my ability. I'm just so happy that I've been able to fulfill this dream that I did have many, many years ago and that I was not sure about and I never believed in myself. So when it came to the actual day, I did not speak to any of the members. We did not meet each other before. We did not talk after. A hype translator was also there. I was told if you can just do Jo and like take care of him throughout the fan sign, I did not really know my place yet. Like this is very new to me. I also think he hesitated asking me for help in the beginning. And he was also trying hard himself to answer back in English. So I wanted to respect them in a way. But throughout the fan sign, it started getting louder. I started to translating much more without him motioning that he needed me. And I'm so glad I made that decision because I think it really made it a lot easier for him. That's not something that's communicated to you, but something that I learned as an interpreter is that's what you have to do. Like you have to read the room. For me, like I'm a perfectionist. Also, I had really, really bad anxiety afterwards. I could only think about the 15 seconds that I either stuttered or like I got my tongue tied. Or like, I couldn't think about anything else. And Team did not look at me as a Lüne. At all. Like, for one, they had no idea that I was doing it. Even when they walked off, like they walked right in front of me and I was filming and waving at them. They didn't look at me. They didn't look at me at all, which is completely fair. To them, their fans are on the other side. I was just a job. And I took it seriously and I had a lot of fun. I hope one day I can talk to Jo as a dude. I also love to do something like this again.
