At 16 years old, my parents gave me a 2006 (I believe) Hyundai Sonata. It was baby blue and I loved it. After a few years, I had gone away to college and my parents sold that car. Eventually they gave me my late grandfather’s 2006 Toyota Camry when I was a sophomore in college, about 20 years old. I have never had a car payment and I am grateful for this. When I got my first job when I was 21, I contemplated getting a new (or newer) car but I just never went for it. Then when I got really serious about paying off my student loans, I realized how lucky I was to not have a car payment while paying off that debt. My Toyota Camry now has 233k miles on it and it’s been with me everywhere. But if you’ve been following with me for a little while now you know I’ve recently decided it’s about time I get myself something a little nicer, safer, and more technologically advanced. This may be the last year I don’t have a car payment (which I know is quite controversial) — just know I don’t plan on selling this car to anyone.
