Watch me groom a dog that bites. Watch me try and groom a spicy dog that doesn't really like being touched. Except for when he's on the grooming table. This is Alfie the Cockapoo. He's in today for a full groom which he has done every eight weeks, but he absolutely hates it and he makes sure I know about it. I always soak up the cuddles when he first arrives because I know this is not going to last long. Because it's time to make a start on the groom. First things first, I'm gonna get him clean. Now he doesn't mind this part too much. I give him two washes with the shampoo. It's super thick like a sheep. So I wash him twice and then I make sure he's clean all the way down to the skin. Then I rinse him off and it's time to get him dry. So I start off by rubbing him down with the towel. Then I put a happy hoodie on him to protect his ears from the noise of the blaster because it's quite loud. I use the blaster by his body and legs and then I get him out of the bath and we have a little break together because things are about to go south. Every time I groom him, I keep myself into thinking, you're really good mood today, maybe you're gonna be alright. As soon as I know that I'm going to need to touch him, he's got really snappy to the point where I couldn't even put my hands near his head without him trying to bite or try and bite me. So I put a muzzle on him so I could brush round his head and face while he was in dry. Then I took it off and attempted to finish off getting him dry the bits that were underneath his muzzle. But unfortunately, you know, my hands are quite an important part of being able to do my jobs, so I do need them. Not to get bitten. I put the muzzle back on and groomed him as close as possible. He's still trying to bite through the muzzle. See, I do understand he's being pushed to his limits right now because he does not want me to be doing this. Unfortunately, you need to be groomed. You're a cockapoo and you need to be groomed or you're gonna get matted. Everything was swimmingly while I was doing his body and legs. And then I obviously needed to take his muzzle off to do his head and face. So I use one hand to try and keep control of where his mouth is going and use the other hand to get the groom done. However, this means he has a choice of two hands to bite. And he did actually manage to bite me really, really hurt. It really, really hurt. Punctured my skin and it bled. People always come at me for crying while I groom, but I'm six months pregnant, okay? I've got an excuse. Leave me alone. I needed to compose myself so I sat and had a break while he sat there looking like butter wouldn't melt. Then I got him back up on the grooming table and I was like, we are getting this groom done if it's the last thing I do. After his groom, I put him on the floor and he switched right back into cuddly, lovely Alfie. And no, I can't just groom him on the floor. I have tried this before. As soon as I come at him with a brush or clippers, he tries to bite me. Both me and Alfie breathed a sigh of relief once this was all done.
