you'll run the entire underground empire in the Mediterranean she stepped forward and patted leo's cheek her eyes both appraising and satisfied now what should you call me Leo turned his head his gaze cutting through the crowd to land on me I looked into his eyes they held too much something I couldn't read the silence stretched feeling like an eternity finally he turned back to Serafina his voice was quiet Mom one word it was such a soft word but it hit me like a physical blow I instinctively took a step back Lucas reached out to study my arm his hand was shaking too Seraphina's smile widened in smug triumph oh Nora thank you she smiled you raised my son for 20 years doing a damn good job I'll remember this favor Seraphina turned and strode toward the helicopter Leo stood where he was for a moment Leo I couldn't help calling out to him he paused slowly he turned around the search lights flickered across this young man's face I couldn't make out his expression I only saw his lips move but no sound came out the next second he turned back he followed Serafina up the metal ramp the door slowly shut the rotors spun faster kicking up a blinding cloud of sand that stung our eyes I stood there watching the helicopter lift off then it disappeared into the pitch black night in just over 10 minutes the beach was empty of soldiers only a few of us remained
