The best personal statements I've read always have one thing. They all start with a story about an instant in time that gives the reader insight into what motivated the author to apply for what they're applying for in the first place. For example, someone's writing a personal statement for law school, that first moment will be a reason as to what got them interested in law in the first place, their first touchpoint with the law. Applying to medical school, it would be something that made you interested in health or medicine, an experience in your life that made it so that medicine was even a thought in your mind. This story makes your personal statement unique to you. Nobody else has that same story, and that's what you need to highlight.
