The couple, who married in August 1999, have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. The legal proceedings are based on specific provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which allow a spouse to seek divorce for reasons such as adultery and cruelty. In the statement released through her advocate Nithyaesh Natraj, she said, “This is with reference to the distasteful comment about my client which is circulating in the media. My client never expected that such distasteful and inappropriate remark would be made by a person holding a high stature in the State's political space.” The statement also made it clear that she has always stayed away from politics.
