Replying to @Alayah my mom told me to open my Roth IRA at Vanguard when I was 21. so that’s what. I did! 12 years later, I still have the account, and I dont’ plan to move it. why I’m still with Vanguard today: 1️⃣ Vanguard is owned by its own investors. that may sound boring, but it matters. most brokerages are profit machines for outside shareholders, which is why they push you toward expensive funds and hidden fees. Vanguard doesn't have outside shareholders to please. that structure is really unusual in this industry, and it shows up in the fees. 2️⃣ their fees are some of the lowest in the entire industry. fees are a killer of returns. a 1% fee over a 40 year career can cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars. Vanguard pioneered the low-cost index fund, so this is their whole identity. 3️⃣ their target-date funds are considered the gold standard. boring, automatic, diversified across stocks and bonds, US and international. if you don't want to think about investing ever again, this is the easiest possible setup. 4️⃣ my mom told me to. and 12 years of compound interest later, I am thankful for her financial literacy and that i listened. 🗣️🗣️🗣️but despite all that, the ultimate best thing to do is just open an account, whether its Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab, they’re all great. pick one and go! let me know your questions!! #RothIRA #investing #PersonalFinance #wealthbuilding #investingforbeginners
