How & wear to camp in Crested Butte Colorado 👇🏼 TL;DR- You can’t just camp anywhere! You must camp in a designated spot marked with a brown camp symbol and a fire ring. These can be paid reserve-ahead campsites, paid first-come first-serve sites, or free designated sites (also first-come first-serve). Camping in CB can def be confusing, and I’ve camped wrongly in the past (like at a trailhead which you can do in lots of other spots in Colorado). So here’s a list of the proper places you can camp! And most of them are free :) RESERVE AHEAD PAID SITES: - Lake Irwin $24/night - Oh Be Joyful $20/night These sites can be reserved ahead of time on Recreation.gov and a few sites can also be booked on site first-come first-serve style. If you’re booking in person, you’ll need cash or check to pay. FIRST-COME FIRST-SERVE SITES: - Kebler Pass 39 sites - Washington Gulch 45 sites - Slate River 36 sites - River Flats Campground 10 sites - Mount Crested Butte 26 sites (tents only, no fires) - Gothic Road 21 sites ($18/night) Daily updated fire restrictions for Gunnison county can be found on travelcrestedbutte.com. Still confused? Head to the Crested Butte visitors center, and the folks there are so kind and will be happy to explain everything & give you maps! 🤗 If you found this helpful, be sure to follow me!
