Project: Tiny SCP-079 Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on bringing SCP-079 from the SCP Foundation universe into reality as a functional desk prop. This project is centered around an ESP32 microcontroller combined with a TFT display. I didn’t want just any image on a screen; my aim was to replicate the experience of SCP-079 appearing on an old CRT monitor. After trying out various image formats, display libraries, orientations, and wiring setups, I finally achieved the desired display functionality. The video showcases my development journey, from the bare ESP32 board, through connecting and testing the display, dealing with an initial upside-down image, to finally assembling everything into a custom 3D-printed enclosure. Witnessing SCP-079’s face on the screen for the first time made all the debugging efforts worthwhile. This project involved: • ESP32 programming • TFT display integration • Image processing and optimization • 3D printed housing design • Soldering and wiring • Troubleshooting display orientation and rendering issues The end result is a compact SCP-079 terminal that fits nicely on a desk, reminiscent of a miniature containment-era computer. Although this version is mainly a display prop, I’m already thinking about future upgrades, like animations, sound effects, button interactions, boot sequences, and more SCP-themed features. As a huge fan of both electronics and the SCP universe, this has been a delightful project, allowing me to blend programming, hardware, and prop making together. Special thanks to everyone who has supported my projects and provided feedback. Every comment, like, and suggestion keeps me motivated to create bigger and more ambitious SCP props.
