These planters look like they cost $300 each. But I made all three for the price of one bag of concrete and one bag of soil. First, I lined an old plastic crate with corrugated cardboard. That rib texture is the whole secret. Then I poured in the concrete and pressed in the drainage holes. I peeled away the mold and pulled out a designer trough planter for about $8 bucks. The next one is the showstopper. I wrapped a tall column in mesh, packed it solid with concrete, sliced excess all the way up and tucked it into a planter. Weeks later, my front yard had a 5-foot tower of cascading flowers. People just stop just to ask where I bought it. So I went bigger. For the last one, I dropped a mesh column into a giant pot, packed it with soil, planted a climber at the base and soaked it. It exploded into a green tower taller than me. Designer planters built from scratch for almost nothing. So which one are you?
