I talk to ACL rehabbers every day. And this is what I keep seeing👇🏽 Missing the foundations from the start. Quads particularly. Those early post-op weeks were supposed to be about 2 things: getting full knee extension and getting your quads firing again. But most people skip the part that actually makes that possible. Surgery doesn't just take a toll on your muscle strength. It disconnects your brain from your muscle. So your quads aren’t just “weak”… it's gone quiet. And quiet quads means pain and swelling the moment you try to run or get back to sport. Because you can't load a muscle your brain isn't talking to yet. That's why straight leg raises and quad sets alone aren't enough. There has to be activation first, then strength. So if your PT is just telling you to keep strengthening, that's not the full picture. Strength starts with connection. And connection starts with the basics done right. Not just cranking out reps of straight leg raises, squats, and lunges for months. The right frequency, the right intensity, and the right activation exercises… in the right order - are what actually get the quads firing again. Because if the quads can't fire properly, getting back to running and sports will not be happening. → Follow @kontextacl if you're tired of generic advice about your ACL and want to know what actually progresses you towards running and sports.
