Six months ago the message to every team was simple. Use as much AI as you can. Now Sam Altman is standing on stage admitting token costs turned into “a huge issue” for his own customers. His words. The line that says everything: companies telling OpenAI they spent their entire 2026 budget in Q1 and asking if he can make it more efficient. This is the part nobody put in the plan. Everyone chased tokenmaxxing. Internal leaderboards. Agents firing off a thousand calls just to answer one question. Then the bill showed up. Microsoft already pulled most of its Claude Code licenses. Uber capped spend at 1,500 a month per person per tool. The takeaway for operators is not complicated. AI is not free just because it feels free. The teams that win the next year are the ones who treat tokens like a real line on the P and L, not a vanity number to flex. So here is the question. Do you actually know what your AI costs you, or just how much you use it. #aiforbusiness #aiagents #ai
