UMAR JOHNSON STREAMS TODAY AT 9AM ON IT’S UP THERE YOUTUBE. linktw.in/cfqRFr Dr. Umar Johnson says Black parents have to stop thinking a jersey will protect their sons in white spaces. Karmelo Anthony was an athlete, a captain, and part of teams — but Umar asks where those teams were when the situation got real. Full conversation on It’s Up There. This clip is one of the most important moments from the conversation. Dr. Umar gives a serious warning to Black mothers and fathers raising Black boys — especially the ones moving their sons into white suburbs and white school districts thinking sports, opportunity, popularity, or being “one of the good ones” will protect them. He uses the Karmelo Anthony situation to ask a bigger question: If your son is the athlete… If your son is the captain… If your son is bringing value to that school… Will that school stand up for him when it matters? Dr. Umar says Black boys are not always given the benefit of childhood — and this part of the interview is going to make a lot of parents think differently.
