It's amazing to think, at 41 years old, I just learned what relational aggression was. The behaviour I'm discussing in the video is something I used to do as a 12 year old child. At that age my only caregiver was highly abusive toward me in a variety of ways that had been ongoing since I can remember. Looking back, I see I had adopted a lot of maladaptive behaviours from watching my mother engage and interact with the world around her. As a result, when I hit adulthood and recognized that these behaviours had names and they were "narcissistic tendencies", "relational aggression", and "emotional hypervigilance", I started going to therapy in an attempt to understand myself and change. Lucky for me, I wasn't diagnosed with any personality disorders outside of CPTSD, but so many children who survive abusive homes grow up to be adults who aren't as lucky. I was lucky. I could see who and what I didn't want to be due to some deep emotional restructuring that began for me in my late teenage years. According to science, that's when these behaviours have the most ability for interventions to work - and they did for me because I continued forward with the journey. In fact, it's what led me to creating this page and speaking openly about the things that happened to me... and because that's true, I won't tolerate any aggressive, mean-spirited, or highly judgmental comments from anyone about how I adapted to survive this as a child either. 🫶🏼✨ Hey, I’m Dee. I’m NOT a therapist or Dr of any kind, and nothing I share on this page is a substitute for professional medical advice or should be taken as medical advice. I’m just a woman healing from CPTSD out loud by talking about psychology, relational aggression, neurodivergence, relationships, and what’s helping me heal along the way. If that aligns, hit FOLLOW to see more. 👀💕 #cptsd #HealingJourney #selfawareness #iwastheproblem #growingup
