Relational aggression is literally designed to be invisible, and that is also why it hurts so much. There's no physical anybody's actually done anything wrong to you. Meanwhile, the emotional damage that you're living through, that's being repeatedly inflicted by somebody who's genuinely emotionally unstable and not right, is basically going unnoticed, or worse, minimized by the people who the most. People like your mutual friends who you definitely have your back and be able to see exactly what's happening, who don't pick sides or say that it's just two people who don't like each other or put it down to drama. When everybody with half a brain can see exactly what's happening, they just don't want to support you, it's inconvenient for them. And because of this when you're going through it, you often start to gaslight yourself into believing, well, maybe it really isn't that bad. Maybe I am being dramatic. Maybe, you know, this is just immature and life and I have to put up with it. But the reality is you don't. Anybody who's tolerating and enabling abuse is also abusive. And if you don't want to be harmed by abusive people, the best thing that you can do for yourself is remove yourself from being around them. So instead of actually asking yourself, what's wrong with me that this group targeted me, start asking, why would I want to be friends with people who behave this way anyway?
