Why do billionaires never buy their dream home in their own name? Why do billionaires never buy their dream home in their own name? Personal ownership makes you a target. Most people never realize why. Here's the reason. Josh is worth $1 billion. He wants a $100 million mansion. Most people think he'll buy it himself. Problem solved. But the lawyers stop him. Instead, they create an LLC. An LLC can own assets. An LLC is simply a legal company that can own assets instead of a person owning them directly. 'The LLC owns it.' So instead of Josh owning the mansion, the LLC owns it. Why does that matter? Because if someone wants to make a legal claim against Josh personally, they can't just point to the mansion and say Josh owns that. Legally, the LLC owns it. Now imagine a costly divorce. His spouse wants a share of everything he personally owns. If it was in Josh's name... It could become part of the legal dispute. But the LLC adds a legal layer. And here's the crazy part. Josh still controls the LLC. Josh still lives there. He still enjoys everything the property provides. The only thing that's changed is who legally owns the asset.
