Growing ginger in my garden It's not that complicated

And the eyes are these dots that looks a little bit different to the rest of the ginger. They are a little bit paler, a little bit lighter compared to the rest of the ginger. And they are these bits here that you can see. We call them eyes. And it is absolutely crucial that if you buy ginger to plant, you must have a ginger that has gone eyes on it to make sure that my ginger is very firm, which means it has stored all of its energy and it's ready to plant. But if it's squidgy, it's not going to be a viable one. And the reason why the Asian shops are the best ones to get it from. In the supermarkets, they tend to gouge out the ice to prevent people from planting their own ginger. But if you go to these supermarkets, they often have the best rhizomes, and they always have ice on them ready to grow into the ginger if you put it in the ground. Here is something that I do to get it ready to plant. I would leave it in a dark cupboard at room temperature, just like you do when you're trying to cheat your potatoes to make it think that it's underground. And then after that, I will take it out of the cupboard a tray of water for a few weeks until all the eyes on the ginger begin to swell up. And after a few weeks, you will see that your ginger is going to turn from this into this. You will see that the roots would have developed and the foliage, it is beginning to grow. And it is exactly at that time when I will take mine and I will put it in the ground to grow. And once I have put it in the ground, in this case, I've put it in a pot, you will start to see it grow like this. It will start to produce foliage just like this one has. They require at least about six about eight months for them to grow into a fully matured ginger. So it is very important you started very early in the year.
