Most people think protection dogs are made during protection training, but they're actually made from the day they come home. This is Foxy, the full sister to our reserved protection dog Banshee, and she's just completed the first stage of our raise and train program. Before a protection prospect ever learns to bark, bite or protect, the foundation has to be right. That foundation begins with socialization and exposure, learning to confidently navigate people, other dogs, unfamiliar environments, loud noises and novel experiences. So a large portion of Foxy's program is focused on this important aspect. Of course, we also take care of important things like potty training, ensuring they understand where to go and when to go. Crate training, creating lots of enthusiasm for the crate here. We also focus very heavily on building engagement with the handler. This helps us to create a strong positive foundation for all their future obedience skills. We also introduce them to leash walking. Introduction to leash walking is a challenge for many puppy owners, not just protection prospects. We teach them when on the collar, move into the pressure and harness, pull towards your target. We also focus on building possession and strong grips through play. Foxy's owners chose bringing this program after bringing us their first protection dog Zeus. Prior to coming to us, Zeus had already had three separate boarding protection training. And yet, he didn't have a bark command, a bite command, or a reliable out. Zeus's owners were so happy with his results following his board and train with us, that they not only booked him in for advanced training, but they entrusted us to raise their future protection dog.
