33 years old and I have a $400,000 net worth. Much to be precise. And no, I did not inherit money, marry rich, or win the lottery. In fact, I was born in Mexico, I moved to the US living paycheck to paycheck and I had zero education about money or investing. Welcome to day three of my series: Building wealth in public as a corporate dropout. Today I want to talk about the four things I did to get me to this net worth eventually that allowed me to quit my job. Number one, I got my shit together. I created a budget and to this day, this is how I manage my money. So I tell my money where to go. First my bills, then I pay myself, which is saving and investing. Then I have like three categories that I prioritize. Travel, experiences, books, courses, etcetera that I love. And the rest is for discretionary spending. What that means is just leftover for fun things. Number two, I'm frugal. I have a paid off car, I rent an apartment, I use second hand clothes. I fill my life with experiences and community and not with materialistic things. Number three, I became really good at communicating my worth in my career. I learned the art of writing a good resume, nailing interviews, communicating in a way that is valuable. That helped me land bigger jobs and raises. Number four, as my income grew, I kept my expenses the same. In fact, instead, I increased my investments. So even though I started investing with a very low salary, I ended up 2025, investing 3 to 4,000 dollars a month. That was on, I had matches from my employer. Building worth, big net worth is achievable if you start small, you're consistent, disciplined and do not spending more as you earn more. You got this!
