what i learned after doing 8 internships in college 1) you're too young to be picky and you're too young to "pigeonhole" yourself especially frosh/soph year, just say yes. you will learn so much from doing jobs that may not be your "dream" role. also don't worry too much about your title and if it'll make you "stuck" in that role forever. people switch jobs so late into their career; one internship will NOT define your career. 2) use companies you care about less as practice i would put off online assessments and interviews or even let them expire because i "wanted to prepare" - just do it and use them as practice 3) never ever reject yourself first for my swe internship at slack, i applied a week after they said they stopped taking applications - i got the role and i cold applied, too. also it's fine if you don't fit every line in the job description, just take the chance on yourself and apply 4) join communities for mentorship and inspiration here are some of my recommendations: • headstart fellowship • rewriting the code • colorstack • mlt career prep • national center for women in I.T. • code path im amesha, your big sister in tech that's helping you break into tech; follow for more!
