OpenAI and Anthropic are in a knife fight for users, so right now we're getting heavily subsidised access. I'm on a $200/month plan and the same usage would cost roughly $50,000 through the API. Claude Code, Fable and Codex are being kept cheap to change our behaviour. As IPO pressure builds, expect more models to leave subscriptions and move to paid APIs.
