If you want to see how I turn this old Barbie Dream House into this super cool cars themed garage for my two-year-old son, keep on watching. This thing was huge. I actually underestimated how big this was when I found it on marketplace second hand for 50 bucks. I actually thought that was a really good bargain considering how much these go for brand new. So I was feeling pretty confident. I thought, yep, easy, pull it apart, spray paint it, Bob's your uncle. And that's actually where I went wrong because this whole thing was so hard to pull apart. I didn't know they made parts like this. So I actually quite literally fought with this whole playhouse just to pull the pieces apart. There were a few times during this whole process where I questioned why I even started this. And then I just had to remind myself it's for my son and he's going to absolutely love this. So I just carried on struggling, pulling all the plastic pieces apart. Here I am, pulling the Barbie Dream House apart. And this moment right here is actually one of those moments where I questioned why I even started this. Because how come this stupid plastic rail just would not come off? I'm actually fighting with a plastic rail. I genuinely could not get it off. I actually gave up and just lifted it. I pulled off all the pieces that I wanted to take off. And I just gave it a quick wipe down before I went in with the paint. I got some spray paint cans from Bunnings. Dulux spray, Black, Satin finish. Dulux spray, Hot Lips, Gloss finish. And Dulux high performance primer spray, plastic, fast drying. So I started off by priming the whole house and I just sprayed everywhere and anywhere that was going to get a lick of paint. And then I just let that dry for at least 10 minutes before I went in with the red. I was unsure on this color red, but as I kept going, I actually think it's the perfect color. I thought it had more of an orange tinge to it, but then as it dried out, it was perfect. I'm just spraying all the pieces that I want red and then I'll let those dry out before I go in with the black. I ended up using one can of red and two cans of black for the whole house. Then I went back to the shop and got a third can because my painting skills aren't the greatest and I wasted half the can because I don't know how to paint properly. I just missed a few spots so I needed a third can for touch-ups. Then I painted all the pieces, let them dry for at least an hour before reassembling the house. And after a few hours, I was finally done and I absolutely loved it. I found the logos on Pinterest and then just printed them off at Kmart on satin finish photo paper and then cut them out. I also got all of those cardboard pieces that I pulled off the house early. I got them off Temu and they came in a pack of four. I'll list everything I got off Temu in the description below. I ordered all of these Disney Cars, and the quality of them is actually really amazing. I couldn't find a fault in them at all. They actually look identical to the ones that you can find in store. The only difference is they don't have the metal stamp on the bottom. And it wasn't until my son actually started liking Lightning McQueen and the Cars characters that I realized how hard it is to actually find the Lightning McQueen Cars and characters in store. Because tell me why it is so hard to find Mater. Like I swear they actually don't sell him in any store. So I've gone into every store you could think of and if I did find him, he was either obnoxiously large or a random color. And I also realized how expensive cars were. They like 15 bucks for a Lightning McQueen. So my son has expensive taste, I guess. I got all the little pieces like the trophy, the piston cup, the traffic lights, the little tires, cones, I got all of those off Temu as well. And I just placed all of his cars in their parking spots. And then I just placed all of his cars and then the ones he already had. And I'm so stoked with how this turned out. My son absolutely loved it. It's an labor of love. I don't know what is. But mama, if you're looking for a sign, this is it. Do this for your little boy who loves cars.
