This 2-hour train ride might be one of the best experiences in Colorado. This is America's most scenic mountain railroad located in Colorado. And here's everything you need to know before riding it. Welcome to the Royal Gorge route railroad, located just two and a half hours from Denver. This makes an incredible Colorado day trip. The two-hour journey takes you through the breathtaking where you'll see towering Canyon walls, the famous whitewater rafters on the Arkansas River, wildlife, and if you're lucky, maybe even a wedding taking place along the Canyon. There are several seating options to choose from, but we rode in the Vista dome, which offers panoramic windows with some of the best views on the train. One of my favorite parts is that you can head outside to the open air cars anytime during the ride to enjoy fresh mountain air and take in the scenery. We booked the 9:00 a.m. departure and started the morning with mimosas, biscuits and gravy, and one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. Throughout the ride, the staff doubles as your tour guides, sharing the fascinating history of the Royal Gorge, the railroad, and even some fun facts about Canyon City's prison. If brunch isn't your thing, they also offer lunch and dinner, cocktails, and even local Colorado wine flights. So every ride can be a little bit different. They also host seasonal rides throughout the year, including Halloween and holiday themed experiences.
