An 8-meter animatronic dragon just flew over Glasgow, and it's not CGI.

An 8-meter animatronic dragon was just spotted flying over Glasgow and it's completely real. Well, real in the sense that it actually flew. Name is Syrax. Syrax belongs to Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Emma D'Arcy in HBO's House of the Dragon. This isn't CGI. It's a genuine flying machine built by a real German company called Airstage. The wingspan alone stretches 8 meters, wider than most small planes. Yet the entire model weighs only 13 kilograms. 23 separate moving parts control its wings, head and tail. It in impellers built right into the legs actually power the flight. The frame is carbon fiber and aluminum, wrapped in vacuum-formed foam. Every scale and detail was airbrushed on entirely by hand. She flew directly over the SEC Armadillo and the OVO Hydro. Real drone footage caught her gliding above the River Clyde at sunrise. This wasn't Syrax's first flight either. She already flew once before over the Tower of London. That flight celebrated the show's original launch. This time, the timing is no accident at all. Glasgow is about to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Syrax was flying just ahead of the opening ceremony itself. It's a crossover no one saw coming. It's arrows meeting real-world sport. HBO gets a viral moment promoting season 3 of the show and Glasgow gets a spectacular sendoff into the games themselves.
