Growing sweet potatoes is one of the easiest ways to multiply your food with very little effort. One sweet potato can produce dozens of slips, and each slip has the potential to grow into an entirely new plant. In this video I used two different varieties a purple sweet potato and a regular orange sweet potato. Both produce edible tubers and nutritious leaves, although their flavor, texture, and color can vary. A tip that many people overlook is placement. Keep your jar in a bright, well-lit are I actually prefer using older ones because they'll naturally start developing what's called eyes. Those are the rays you see forming on the surface. Grab a container that's big enough to hold the sweet potato. Fill it with water and rest a potato on top so only the bottom is submerged. Sometimes even without water, a sweet potato stored in a cool, dark place will start sprouting on its own. After a few weeks, the sweet potato sitting in water will start growing slips. The longer they grow, the more nodes they develop. Once they're large enough, gently remove the slips and either plant them directly or place them in water until they develop roots. In a few months, they'll produce sweet potatoes and I also have plenty of leaves to harvest for recipes. You can do this with store-bought sweet potatoes or sweet potatoes from last year's harvest, whether they're aged or fresh. Like and follow for more clean recipes and herbal wellness and I'll see you guys in the next one.

Keep your jar in a bright, well-lit area or outside if temperatures are warm enough. Light and warmth encourage faster rooting and slip production. How often you change the water depends on your environment. Factors like temperature, sunlight, and water quality all play a role. Some people may need to change the water every day or every other day if it becomes cloudy. In my case, I didn't change the water once, I simply topped it off as the water naturally evaporated, and both potatoes continued growing just fine. Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of fiber, complex carbohydrates, beta-carotene... especially orange varieties, vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. The slips eventually become vines that produce new sweet potatoes, while the young leaves are completely edible and are one of my favorite leafy greens to cook with. They're rich in vitamins A, C, and K, along with minerals and beneficial plant compounds. A few simple tips: 🌱 Start with a healthy, undamaged sweet potato. 🌱 Only submerge the bottom of the potato. 🌱 Be patient every variety sprouts at its own pace. 🌱 Don't throw the original potato away after removing slips. It can often produce another round. 🌱 Harvest the young leaves throughout the season while waiting for the tubers to mature.
