One of my favorite parts of traveling is trying foods I've never had before, and this trip to Oaxaca gave me plenty of firsts. ❤️🇲🇽 Here's everything I tried for the first time: 🌼 1. Quesadillas de flor de calabaza – Fresh squash blossom folded into a handmade tortilla with melty quesillo. Simple, earthy, and absolutely delicious. 🥣 2. Pozontle – an ancestral, foamy, cold Zapotec drink from the "Sierra Norte of Oaxaca" Mexico, made with cacao, cracked corn, panela, and the cocolmécatl vine served inside a hollowed out gourd called a jícara. 🥑 3. Aguacate chupón con salsa – A unique variety of avocado with an incredibly soft, creamy texture. You mix salsa right into the avocado and enjoy it with a spoon or spread it on a tortilla. 🌿 4. Yetigu (Zapotec bean tamal) – A traditional Zapotec tamal made with masa, seasoned bean paste, avocado leaves, and wrapped in a banana leaf. The avocado leaf gives it such a distinct Oaxacan flavor. 🍌 5. Plátano relleno con lechera – Fried plantain stuffed with cream cheese and drizzled with sweetened condensed milk. Such a fun twist on one of my favorite desserts! 🥭 6. Mango piña – My absolute favorite. This special variety of mango is only available in parts of Oaxaca, and I ate one every single day we were there. I'm already counting down until I can have another. Which one would you try first? 🌮✨ #oaxaca #oaxacamexico #mexicanfood #foodtravel #travelmexico
