Your inner critic has probably been narrating your life for so long that it’s easy to mistake its voice for your own. Over time, fear, self-doubt, old experiences, and other people’s expectations can become the lens through which you interpret everything. They shape the opportunities you notice, the risks you take, the goals you set, and even the story you tell yourself about who you are. One reason I love using ChatGPT for self-reflection is that it gives me an opportunity to step outside that familiar perspective for a few minutes. A different perspective doesn’t automatically become the truth. It becomes something to consider. Sometimes that’s all we need to notice a possibility we’ve been filtering out. Copy & paste this AI prompt ⬇️ “Based on everything you know about me, introduce me to the version of myself that isn’t shaped by fear, self-doubt, or other people’s expectations. Describe who they are, what they’ve known about me all along, and what my inner critic has quietly gotten wrong. End by showing me the larger story my life appears to be telling.” One thing I’d encourage while reading the response is to notice your reaction: - Which sentences feel immediately true? - Which ones make you uncomfortable? - Which ones make you think, “I wish I believed that about myself.” Those reactions are often more revealing than the response itself. This is also where I think it’s important to Keep the I in AI because AI isn’t here to decide who you are. Your judgment, lived experience, intuition, and critical thinking still matter. I use ChatGPT as a thinking partner because it helps me organize ideas, connect patterns, and explore perspectives I may not have considered on my own. Then I decide what belongs in my story. If this prompt resonates, here are a few follow-up prompts to continue the conversation: 📌 Based on this response, give me one daily affirmation that feels believable, specific, and grounded in who I already am—not who I’m trying to become. 📌 What mindset shift would create the biggest positive change in my life over the next year? Explain why. 📌 If I became 1% more aligned with this version of myself every day, what would I start doing, stop doing, and continue doing? 📌 What evidence from my own life already supports this version of me? One of my favorite things about these AI Mirror prompts is that they help people have better conversations with themselves. Every thoughtful question creates more context, deeper self-awareness, and a stronger foundation for future conversations. If you try this one, I’d love to know what your inner critic had gotten wrong. Reading your responses is one of the best parts of creating this series, and there’s a good chance your answer will resonate with someone else, too. I share new AI Mirror prompts almost every day.
