This weekend's ride through the Limuru,Kiambu twisties was an absolute blast! 🏍️ Safe to say, this route has officially earned a permanent spot on my bucket list. Definitely doing this again. As fun as it was though, every ride is a lesson. If you watch the first five seconds of this video carefully, you'll notice something interesting. That was almost a high-side. I say almost because it didn't fully commit to throwing the rider into the next county. 😂 A high-side usually happens when your rear tyre loses traction, slides sideways, then suddenly grips again. That snap back is what launches riders. It happens so fast, without much warning. Now here's what may have caused it, if you look closely at the road surface, there's loose debris from one of those speed bumps that look like they were built on a Friday evening with leftover sand from nearby construction site. 😂 (Sadly, they're pretty common on some of our rural roads.) When you come across a section like this, the best thing you can do is stay smooth. Maintain a steady throttle, avoid braking and don't suddenly twist the throttle harder. Smooth inputs will keep the bike settled which will help you roll over the hazard safely. The moment panic joins the conversation,hard acceleration then followed by sudden braking,that's when the rear tyre can step out, especially if it's already on loose debris. If you're lucky, the bike forgives you. If you're not... well... congratulations, you've just been promoted from rider to road inspector because you'll be getting up close and personal with the tarmac. 😅 Let's learn this this.
