It isn't because you're weak. It's because when your nervous system becomes overwhelmed, your brain shifts from responding to reacting. In moments of intense anger, disappointment, rejection, shame, or fear, your brain perceives a threat. The emotional centers, particularly the amygdala, become highly active while the prefrontal cortex-the part responsible for judgment, impulse control, and long-term thinking-becomes less effective. Instead of asking, "What's the best thing to do?" your brain asks, "How do I protect myself right now?" That's when people: * Send the text they regret. * Quit the job they've spent years building. * End a healthy relationship in a moment of rage. * Say words they can't take back. * Self-sabotage opportunities they've worked so hard for. * Make impulsive financial or career decisions. The action often lasts minutes. The consequences can last years. A dysregulated nervous system doesn't just make you feel overwhelmed-it narrows your ability to think clearly. It favors immediate relief over long-term goals. Regulation is the space between the trigger and the reaction. That pause is where your future is protected. Because one emotionally driven reaction can undo months or even years of intentional effort. Healing isn't about becoming emotionless. It's about making sure your emotions don't make your decisions for you. #desitherapyy #psychology #hardwork #mindset #DidYouKnow
