Why it worked

The video likely resonated due to its dramatic narrative of a customer feeling wronged by a service provider, escalating to police involvement. The clear conflict, the customer's assertion of their rights, and the relatable frustration of being overcharged or having property withheld create a compelling story that encourages viewers to seek more information, as indicated by the call to action.

Summary

The video depicts a confrontation between a customer and a Jiffy Lube employee, with a police officer present. The customer claims Jiffy Lube tried to steal their phone and overcharge them for brake service. The customer asserts their property (phone) is being held and is crucial evidence. The police officer is investigating a potential "theft of service." The customer explains they left to pick up their daughter, intending to return and pay, but were prevented from leaving. They also highlight discrepancies in the quoted price for brake service compared to other quotes.

Structure

1Customer confronts Jiffy Lube employee and police about stolen phone and overcharging.

Replying to @EKGWithTee Here’s Part 2 of when Jiffy Lube tried to rob me, stole my phone and called the cops on me. Long story short. Yes, I got my phone back. Three cops later… 1. No, I did NOT pay $800. 2. No, I did NOT let them put the old brakes back on. 3. Once I got my phone back and was able to prove everything I had been saying, her attitude completely changed. If I hadn’t had the evidence, I would’ve continued to be treated like a criminal, guilty until proven innocent. Before taking my 2020 Toyota Sienna in, I called several shops for quotes on front and rear brake pads. The other shops quoted me $450 and $470. When I called Jiffy Lube, I was very clear. I asked for a quote on front and rear brake pads, and I even offered to buy the brake pads myself if needed. I was quoted $399 total, so I told them I’d bring it in. I arrived around 3:20 PM and patiently waited until about 5:30 PM. I was outside almost the entire time creating content. When the technician finished the work, he handed me my keys and told me they would cash me out. When I got to the cashier, I was recording because I planned to promote both my business and theirs. But when he told me the total was $874, I immediately said, “That’s not what I was quoted.” He asked who gave me the quote. I didn’t know the employee’s name, but after I explained the conversation, he said, “Oh, that was Xavier. Hold on, let me make a phone call.” A few minutes later he came back and said Xavier should not have given me that quote and that I would have to pay the full $874. I told him, “I’ll pay what I was quoted, or we can settle it in court.” He said he needed to make another call. By then it was about 5:45 PM. I explained that I had to pick up my daughter from volleyball practice at 6:00 PM, which was only about 10 minutes away, and that I would come right back. I carry two phones. The phone that recorded the transaction and contained the conversation was accidentally left on the counter. While I was driving to pick up my daughter, I called Jiffy Lube and asked for the manager. I told him again that I was picking up my daughter and would be right back, and that I had accidentally left my phone on the counter. He replied, “I got your phone.” When my daughter and I returned, we noticed a police car waiting. I had already explained the situation to her, so I told her to record everything on her phone too. The video was long. The interaction with the police alone lasted almost an hour. This was 3 years ago to the day yesterday. I’ll continue to share and warn others about their shady practices! #richthames #universalcityTX #jiffylube #cops #sanantoniotx
