Most Affordable Protein Sources In Nairobi
1. Dried Omena
If you can stand the smell, it's the cheapest & has the highest protein content per 100g
2. Chicken breast
All meat no bone so value for money it's cheaper than beef @600-800/kg
It has high protein content & is low in calories
3. Minced chicken
Run to Naivas for this coz they grind the chicken breast.
Budget @850/kg. Sometimes it's cheaper
4. Drumsticks
Most delicious part of chicken if you ask me. Depending on where you're buying, this can range from 600-900/kg which holds about 7-8 pieces.
5. Chicken thighs
Some thighs can be thicker than others so hapa you can get fewer pieces per kg.
Budget 600-800/kg
6. Lean Minced Beef
The most expensive of all in the list & also the hardest to find. Where you buy it matters.
I'd recommend you go to carrefour.
Naivas is a close second but they're not consistent.
I hear KMC is good but I'm yet to try.
City market has been a fail for me.
Budget 1200/kg
7. Eggs
Unfortunately you have to eat a lot of them to get the protein. They're affordable though
8. Chicken gizzards
They're low in calories. 18g protein per 100g
400shs/kg is a steal
Only bad thing I can say is, I don't enjoy chewing them 🐒
9. Liver
I rarely cook this but it's an Honorable mention.
I don't remember the price
