Was it worth it? Let's do the math! How much was this outdoor fireplace? Let's break it down. Starting with the frame, it was $350 for studs and screws. Next are the hardy backer boards, they're $18 each. He used 16 of them, so that makes it $288. Plus $24 for corners for stucco and joint tape. Stucco finish was $60 per bucket. He used three buckets, and that is $180. The burner he made himself with a gas pipe and a few fittings, and that was $50. The most expensive was the backsplash tile, which was $15 per square foot, and he used 40, which is $600. Lava decorator rocks were $180 for three buckets. Miscellaneous items such as masking tape, roller brushes, and all that were $30. A gallon of paint from Sherwin Williams, and that was $50. The decorator fireplace logs were $100. And that brings us to a grand total of just a little below $1900!! Was it more or less than you expected? And would you build one yourself for this price? In my opinion, I think it's worth every penny.
