What this video will break down:
1: Shape + form
2: Fluidity in anatomy
3: Gender dimorphism
4: Common anatomy mistakes
@ADIGSTRIPES
1: SHAPE + FORM
I will start off first with my base and will then break it down for you - in anatomy, turning the body into shapes is one of the most important techniques, and should be one of the first you learn
1: SHAPE + FORM
Head
upper arms
chest/
rib cage
forearms
lower torso
thighs
This is highly simplified, but represents my overall take on basic female anatomy (but varies depending on body type)
AND HERE'S HOW YOU
SHOULD STUDY IT:
1: SHAPE + FORM
1: SHAPE + FORM
Try break down poses into similar shapes as I did prior
1: SHAPE + FORM
One MAJOR tip I have is to avoid
Pinterest 'pose break downs' such as
these, as they lack validity - they use
random circles, lines and boxes without
understanding what they are doing
1: SHAPE + FORM
Here are some for you to try instead:
1: SHAPE + FORM
1: SHAPE + FORM
I try to pick people with less/ tighter clothing,
simply so that you can see the shapes easier!
Large/baggy clothing makes it harder and you
end up guessing shapes which instead stunts
your learning

Now, onto fluidity!
2. FLUIDITY
I create fluidity using singular
lines that set out what 'angle'
the pose will take
2. FLUIDITY
They are those long, curved lines I
place before drawing the pose on top,
and prevent the body becoming stiff
2. FLUIDITY
(Both these poses are very quick sketches and are not the
most anatomically correct, I just want to show the importance of
the fluidity lines LIKE SO:)

3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
female vs male
These are torso sketches of
typical male and female bodies
3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
Differences between the two include:
3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
1. Biological men typically have
wider necks than women, alongside
more developed trap muscles
3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
2. Women have slimmer rib cages
3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
3. Men have wider shoulders
3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
4. Women have wider hips and
their torso takes on more of an
hourglass shape, whereas men
take on more of an inverted triangle
3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
MORE DIFFERENCES:
- Due to men having a naturally higher muscle
mass, men's thighs bulge out more on the middle
whereas women's thighs bulge out nearer + on
the hips (upper thigh + hips)
3. GENDER DIMORPHISM
Let's look at some common
anatomical errors!
4. COMMON MISTAKES
MORE DIFFERENCES:
- Due to men having a naturally higher muscle
mass, men's thighs bulge out more on the middle
whereas women's thighs bulge out nearer + on
the hips (upper thigh + hips)
4. COMMON MISTAKES
1. Drawing breasts as circles
4. COMMON MISTAKES
Improved!
Due to gravity, breasts fall, causing more
of a teardrop shape, regardless of size.
However, they do come in all shapes AND
sizes, not all are shaped this way. Regardless,
they all have one thing in common - none sit
as perfect, round circles naturally
4. COMMON MISTAKES
2. Overly curving the legs
Improved!
Legs DO have a natural curve, but it's important
to recognise that it only becomes apparently when
the leg is at an angle, not just when standing
4. COMMON MISTAKES
However, many CHOOSE to stylise their
anatomy and exaggerate the curve which
is completely fine and can often look great!
4. COMMON MISTAKES
3. Elbows going past hands in this pose
Try it yourself - the elbow cannot physically
go past your hands in this pose.
4. COMMON MISTAKES
Position the arms in a triangle formation;
shoulders, elbows and hands should always
make a triangle
4. COMMON MISTAKES
That's all for today, if you got this far then thank you!
As you know, I'm not a professional, however I
do have an understanding that I can share
