My girlfriend has always been jealous of African women and their hairstyles. She says braided hairstyles look absolutely amazing and she wishes she had the kind of hair that makes them so easy to wear. The problem is, her hair couldn't be more different. She has very long, straight hair, and every time she tries braids, they loosen up, stick out everywhere, sometimes even damage her hair. So today, she gave me one challenge: Create the look of African braids without actually doing braids. I started by slicking everything back with plenty of hairspray, then added volume at the back before building the hairstyle piece by piece. The funny thing is, nobody ever seems happy with the hair they were born with. People with curly hair want it straight, blondes want dark brunettes to want blonde hair. To finish everything, I created a large bun wrapped with waterproof cords around it to recreate the look she loves so much. The best part is that it'll last for weeks, even through showers. She's showing this hairstyle to her friends tomorrow, and I'm honestly nervous to hear what they think. So follow me to see their reaction.
