Can I get 3/4 of a pint, please? Legally, no. What do you mean, legally? It's illegal to sell beer by the quarter pint. So what sizes can you sell beer in? A third, a half, 2/3 and a pint. Uh huh. You know, before 2011 we couldn't sell 2/3, only thirds and halves. But presumably you could sell someone two... thirds? Yep. Just not two-thirds. That's right. So you could sell me a half and a third? Yeah, which would make that 5 6ths? 5 6ths. And that's a 12th more than what I want. Yeah, and two thirds would be a 12th less, so I'm allowed to buy a 12th under or a 12th over, but not the amount I actually want? Yep. Fine. I'll have half a pint, a third of a pint and an empty pint glass. Cheers.
