Why it worked
The post leverages the high public interest in Elon Musk, Tesla, and SpaceX, combined with the speculative and ambitious nature of the project, to create a compelling narrative that encourages swiping and engagement.
Summary
This photo post announces that Tesla and SpaceX are building a massive, unprecedented factory in Texas called Terafab. The factory is intended to address global chip supply bottlenecks and aims for significant AI computing power, with substantial investment and job creation planned.

SpaceX and Tesla confirmed this week that Terafab, their jointly developed chip factory, will be built in Grimes County, Texas — with an initial phase costing $16.8 billion and a full buildout that could scale to $119 billion. The completed facility is planned to span more than 100 million square feet, which the companies are calling the largest chip manufacturing complex on Earth. The goal is to produce chips tailored specifically to Tesla’s Optimus robots and Cybercabs and SpaceX’s planned space-based data centers, addressing a combined compute demand the companies say already exceeds 1 terawatt — far beyond current global chip supply. Intel joined the project in April to help design and fabricate at scale, its first outside foundry commitment in company history. Elon Musk says the plant will employ at least 3,000 people and be operational in phases starting 2027. This is NOT financial advice. Invest at your own risk.
