Before the decline started in February, Lee was active. He was full of life. He had JUST started sitting up on his own and independently drinking from a straw. Those were HUGE accomplishments for him, and I remember being so proud of how much progress he was making. And now… he sleeps almost all day. Watching the difference between who he was just months ago and where we are now is one of the hardest things I have ever had to experience as his mom. There is something so incredibly painful about watching your child slowly decline right in front of you. Watching the things he worked so hard for disappear. Watching his energy disappear. Slowly watching his light fade away while knowing there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it. I miss seeing him awake. I miss his energy. I miss watching him accomplish new things. I miss the version of Lee from before February… even though he is still right here in my arms. And I think that is one of the cruelest parts of anticipatory grief. 💔
