✈️ Not every airport scam looks suspicious. Some look professional, helpful and completely legitimate — which is exactly why travelers can fall for them. Here are 5 situations to watch for at airports 👇 🚕 1. THE “OFFICIAL” TAXI DRIVER Someone approaches you inside arrivals, offers to help with your bags and promises a “special” or fixed fare. The problem? They may not be an authorized airport taxi. 👉 Use official taxi ranks, licensed operators or trusted transportation apps available at your destination. Confirm the fare or meter before leaving. 📶 2. THE FREE AIRPORT WI-FI LOOKALIKE You see a network with an airport-looking name and connect without thinking twice. But scammers can create convincing Wi-Fi network names designed to look legitimate. 👉 Confirm the airport’s official network before connecting, and avoid entering sensitive information on unfamiliar public networks. 💱 3. THE “CONVENIENT” CURRENCY EXCHANGE You land, see a currency exchange counter and assume you’re getting a reasonable rate because it’s inside the airport. Not necessarily. 👉 Compare the exchange rate AND fees before handing over your money. Convenience can come at a premium. 👀 4. SOMEONE “HELPING” WITH YOUR BAG This one can happen FAST. A friendly stranger offers to carry your luggage, guide you somewhere or “help” you navigate the airport — then asks for unexpected payment or puts you in an uncomfortable situation. 👉 Keep control of your luggage and use clearly identified airport staff when you need assistance. 📱 5. THE QR CODE YOU SCAN WITHOUT THINKING QR codes are everywhere — parking, Wi-Fi, transportation and payments. But a tampered or fake QR code can direct you somewhere you didn’t intend to go. 👉 Before entering payment or personal information, check that the page or service is genuinely connected to the airport or company you intended to use. The biggest travel scams aren’t always the ones that LOOK like scams.
