ROMANS 15 drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another believer to stumble. 22 You may believe there's nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God. Blessed are those who don't feel guilty for doing something they have decided is right. 23 But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.* Living to Please Others 15 We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves. 2 We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. 3 For even Christ didn't live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, "The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me."* 4 Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled. 5 May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. 6 Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, accept each other just as Christ accepted you in order to bring praise to God. I pray that God, who gives you patience and endurance, will help you live by faith. 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul's Reason for Writing I am full of gladness in the Lord that you are reviving your concern for me. You were concerned before, but you didn't have the opportunity to show it. 15 I am not writing about things that you don't know about, but about things that you do know. I am writing to remind you of the things you already know. 16 I am eager to preach the good news to you who are in Rome, just as I preach to people everywhere. 17 So I am glad because of what Christ Jesus has done through me. 18 I will not hesitate to speak about the things that Christ has done through me to win obedience from the Gentiles, by my words and actions, 19 by the power of miracles and by the power of the Holy Spirit. So I have fully preached the good news of Christ all the way from Jerusalem to Illyricum. 20 My goal is to preach the good news in places where the name of Christ has not yet been heard, rather than building on someone else's foundation. 21 Instead, I will follow the principle that is written in the Scriptures: "Those who have not been told about him will see him, and those who have not heard about him will understand." 22 This is the reason I have been prevented from coming to you for so long. 23 But now I have finished my work in those places, and I have longed to see you for many years. 24 I plan to visit you on my way to Spain, and I hope to see you then and to have you help me on my journey after I have enjoyed your company for a while. 25 But now I am going to Jerusalem to take a special offering to the Lord's people there. 26 The believers in Macedonia and Achaia have gladly taken a special offering for the poor among the Lord's people in Jerusalem. 27 They were glad to do it, and they know they owe them a great debt. For the Gentiles have shared in the Gentiles have shared in the spiritual blessings of the Jews, so they should also help them with their earthly needs. 28 When I have delivered this special offering to them, I will start my journey to Spain and will visit you on the way. 29 I know that when I come to you, I will bring many blessings with me, the blessings that come from the fullness of the gospel. 30 I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love that the Holy Spirit gives, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. 31 Pray that I will be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea and that my service in Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord's people there. 32 Then, by God's will, I will be able to visit you with joy and be refreshed with you. 33 May the God of peace be with you all.
