POV: you’ve been struggling with intrusive thoughts for years and someone finally tells you to “just stop thinking about it.” 😭 Wow. Why didn’t I think of that?? But seriously, one of the biggest misconceptions about OCD is that recovery means learning how to control, stop, or get rid of intrusive thoughts. It doesn’t. You don’t have to stop the thought. You have to stop treating the thought like something that needs to be stopped. The more you fight a thought, analyze it, check it, reassure yourself about it, or desperately try not to think about it, the more important your brain learns that thought must be. OCD recovery is about changing your response to the thought, not winning a battle against your own brain. If you’re struggling with OCD or intrusive thoughts and don’t know how to break the cycle, DM me “CONSULT”. I offer a free 30-minute consultation where we can talk about what you’re experiencing, identify the compulsions that may be keeping you stuck, and I can explain how ERP treatment works. If you’d like to work with me moving forward, amazing. If not, you’ll still leave with helpful guidance and clarity. 📩 DM me “CONSULT” or visit OCDtherapist.org to schedule. . . . . . . #ocd #ocdproblems #intrusivethoughts #ocdrecovery #ocdtherapy
