Hook
I went to the coffee shop with this Indian girl, and it was a big line in the coffee shop. Okay? And this might be a bit controversial, but I think that we should bring back American names. Okay? So let me explain. Boom, we're in the coffee shop, long line. We get up to the front. I'm itching. I need my coffee, right? I'm getting anxious. He asks me, sir, what would you like? I go, uh, black, large. Okay. Hot, black. It doesn't get better than a hot, large black. Okay. He goes, perfect. It's very simple. So you can just turn around and make it. I don't have to wait for the other people to make it. The guy taking my order turns around, fills up the cup, gives it right back to me. He doesn't even need to ask my name. And on the off chance that they do have to make it in the corner and they ask my name, I say my name is Josh. I say my name is Josh, cause everybody knows how to spell Josh. They're not gonna ask me, what was that? How do you spell it? It's just Josh. Boom, you're done. He looks over at the young lady next to me. She goes, you know, he's like, what would you like? She goes, I would want a Trente Vento, back shot sundae Frappuccino. Okay. Perfect. $15. What's your name? And she says her name. It's a very beautiful ethnic name. I don't come for me, it's beautiful, but it's a little bit hard to understand and pronounce if you're not Indian, right? He goes, what was that? And then she says it again, her real name. And then he goes, how do you spell it? Now? I'm looking around now. There's people behind this, right? And more importantly, I want to get out, right? My goal on a coffee shop. I get in, I get out, right? I get in, I get out. I don't care about you. I love you. I don't care about you though. I wanna get my coffee, I wanna get out. And now she's, she's hindering that. That process, right? Because now, now we're stuck here doing this whole back and forth thing. So he's like, okay, go ahead and wait down there. Because he spells it out for him. He writes it down. This whole ordeal took maybe 45 seconds more than it should have. So we get over there, and I turn to her and I asked her, I said, so why do you, uh, does that happen often? Do they usually not not get it? Like, duh, you know, I'm waiting for her to be like, yes. She, of course, she's like, yes, that happens almost every single time. And I'm like, so why don't you just go by Sarah or Jill? Writer Jack. I don't know. Whatever, Bill. She goes, I'm not gonna erase my culture and my heritage. They can learn my name. And I'm like, that dude's making minimum wage, and they're understaffed and they're swamped, and you want him to learn your name, right? Like, what's your goal? Is your goal in life not to get the coffee? Just like me? Get the coffee, get in, get out. Why are we taking the stance here? Um, you know, we went back and forth, and I said, look, you got you. Look at the Chinese, okay? The Chinese. They're very efficient people. They get off the plane, they land here, you look them dead in the face, they ask you your name, and they go, my name is Bill. Their name is not Bill. They have a very cool, intricate Chinese name that's like every Chinese person ever known. Their name is not William. Right? But they're efficient people. They don't want you to stumble. They just wanna get in and get out.
