If your curious: The Gymnase Jules Ladoumègue is a stunning Brutalist sports complex in Paris’s 19th arrondissement, built in the late ’60s/early ’70s and designed by Jean Peccoux with engineer Robert Lourdin. The best part is the roof. It’s made from 12 huge curved sections of laminated timber, creating this almost folded, sculptural shape. Basically, proof that Brutalism does not have to mean giant concrete box. Tennis de la Cavalerie is a hidden private tennis court in the middle of Paris. It sits on top of an Art Deco building in the 15th arrondissement, near the Eiffel Tower, designed by Robert Farradèche in the 1920s. The insane part is the diamond-patterned wooden roof, designed to span the entire court without columns. The original was damaged in a 1999 storm and later rebuilt to preserve the same incredible structure.
