When most people think about staying strong after 40, they focus on the big muscles, quads, hamstrings, chest, back and glutes. But healthy aging isn’t just about how much weight you can lift. It’s about how well you can MOVE. And these 3 overlooked muscles play a major role 👇🏾 🦵🏾 1. SOLEUS — Deep Calf Muscle Your soleus works hard every time you walk. It helps control the ankle, absorb and produce force, and contributes to strong, efficient movement. Train it: Bent-knee calf raises. 🦶🏾 2. TIBIALIS ANTERIOR — Front of the Shin This muscle lifts your foot toward your shin, helping your toes clear the ground when you walk while also improving ankle control. Train it: Tibialis raises. 🍑 3. GLUTEUS MEDIUS — Side of the Hip Walking is essentially a series of single-leg positions. Your glute med helps stabilize your pelvis and control your hip and leg every time your foot hits the ground. Train it: Banded lateral walks. As we age, maintaining lower-body strength, balance, stability and movement capacity becomes increasingly important for staying active and independent. So don’t just train the muscles you can see in the mirror. Train the muscles that help keep you MOVING. Your goal shouldn’t just be to live longer. It should be to move well for as many of those years as possible. 💪🏾 📌 SAVE this for your next workout. 🔁 SHARE it with someone over 40 who wants to stay strong, mobile and capable. #fitnessover40 #movementismedicine #painfreemovement #mobility #longevitytraining
