Orb Aerospace is developing Nomad, an electric VTOL aircraft designed to take off and land vertically like a helicopter, then transition into efficient winged flight for longer-distance missions. The aircraft is being designed for applications such as disaster response, medical logistics, and remote deliveries, especially in areas where runways, roads, or dependable fuel infrastructure may be unavailable. Orb Aerospace has discussed ambitious targets of around 1,000 nautical miles of range and a 500 lb payload capacity. However, Nomad is still in the development stage, so these specifications will need to be validated through real-world testing. If successful, Nomad could offer a new approach to moving people and critical supplies to hard-to-reach locations. The future of aviation could be electric, autonomous, and runway-free.
